Every martial art will have its own system as to the ranking of the belts and at the end of every stage you will need to take a test. This will test your skills and moves and ensure that you are ready and competent to move on to the next stage of your journey. These moves will either be done on your own or against an opponent and the instructor will decide if you are skilled enough. The higher up the ranks you go the darker the taekwondo belts are until you reach black.
A black belt takes years of dedicated practice to obtain, as the student will move through many lower ranked colour belts before getting the opportunity to try and earn the coveted and prestigious black belt.

Judo (meaning "gentle way") is a modern martial art, combat and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano . Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. Strikes and thrusts by hands and feet as well as weapons defenses are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms (kata,) and are not allowed in judo competition or free practice. A judo practitioner is called a judoka.
